State Lifeline Assistance Program: Funded from the New Jersey General Fund, the state Lifeline Assistance Program assists those receiving medical assistance to the aged, medical assistance only, or NJ Care. You can reach them at 1-800-792-9745
State Fresh Start Program: This program allows enrollees a chance to have past due bills forgiven if they start paying their monthly bills in full and do so for an entire year. You can reach this program at 1-888-576-5529.
New Jersey SHARES is a statewide, year-round independent energy fund for individuals and families living in NJ who are in need of temporary help in paying their energy bills. They can be reached at 866-657-4273.
New Jersey Gift of Warmth is a program that provides natural gas cost assistance to low-income customers and those in temporary financial distress. This program is administered by the United Way through local Community Action Programs. For more information, please call 1-800-624-0241.
The Citizens Energy Corporation can be reached at 1-877-563-4645. They can give you information about contacting local oil companies for 100 free gallons of heating oil for those who qualify. If you receive Energy Assistance or are within specific income guidelines, you may already qualify.
